Antiguamente la piel suave y duradera de los koalas era muy popular, por ello la población se redujo considerablemente. Entretanto permanecían bajo protección, sin embargo casi 4.000 koalas que viven en zonas urbanas mueren a manos de hombres cada año. Así, tres de cada cuatro animales que mueren en accidentes son koalas(un 75 porciento) .

El Koala

El koala es un marsupial de pelo espeso y sedoso, con orejas peludas y grandes y nariz achatada. Es un animal de hábitos nocturnos que pasa dias seguidos trepados en arboles de eucaliptos, de los cuales se alimenta. Pasan unas 18 horas del dia durmiendo, y de noche se alimentan. Son animales que se mueven lentamente a pesar de que son muy ágiles trepando por los árboles y solo bajan al suelo cuando no pueden saltar de un árbol a otro. Consumen a diaro 500 gramos de hojas de eucalipto, ya que estas tienen muy pocas proteínas por lo cual se necesita una gran cantidad para nutrirse bien. Además las hojas de eucalipto tienen muchos productos tóxicos que el higado del koala puede neutralizar.

 Es un animal solitario, los machos se pelean entre ellos por su territorio el cual marcan resfregando una glándula olorosa que tienen en el pecho contra la corteza del árbol, las hembras son menos agresivas y marcan su territorio a través de la orina y las defecaciones

Es uno de los animales más simpáticos y atractivos de todo el reino animal. Este animal procede de Australia. El Koala únicamente te alimenta de corteza de Eucalipto y sus hojas.

Tiene parecido a los osos pero no tiene ningún parentesco con ellos. La mayor parte del tiempo la pasa subida a los árboles de eucalipto y solo pisan tierra para cambiar de árbol cuando se les acaba el alimento.
El animal tiene pies de cinco dedos. El koala es un buen trepador debido a que sus manos y sus pies son condición prensil. Es un animal que se adapta muy buen a la vida en cautividad.
La hembra da a luz en la mayoría de las ocasiones una cría aunque alguna que otra vez puede tener dos crías. Cuando la cría sale al exterior la koala hembra suele llevar a su cría durante mucho tiempo acuestas. Los machos se diferencian de las hembras por los testículos o bolsa testicular y por una glándula que tiene en el pecho y que desprende un olor característico. Los machos adultos suelen ser hasta un cincuenta por ciento mas grandes que las hembras koalas adultas.Son simpáticos y divertidos y su cara parece estar siempre de buen humor.

Personalmente creo que los Koalas junto con el oso panda son uno de los animales más simpáticos que existen. No quiero decir bonitos, que hay otros más bonitos, o elegantes, o no sé, sino simpáticos, son animales que al verlos sientes, algo agradable.Es lo que se dice vulgarmente que dan “buen rol lito” El koala es un animal más bien nocturno de día esta más quieto que de noche. Es decir que generalmente presenta mayor actividad de noche que de día.
